Layflat tubing is a long continuous tube of polythene sleeving that comes on a roll. It is often the most economical, quickest and easiest way to package products that are the same size in width but different lengths. Just put your product inside the tubing, cut to the required length and the use a heat sealer, staple or tape one or both ends.

Layflat tubing is made from polyethylene, mostly from low density polythene. Polythene is made from crude oil and natural gas, a non-renewable resource. The most common technique to produce layflat tubing is using the blown film extrusion method, also known as the tubular film process. In the blown film process the polythene melt is extruded through an annular slit die vertically, to form a thin walled tube. Air is introduced through a hole in the centre of the die into the tube causing it to expand and form a bubble. Mounted on top of the die, a high-speed air ring blows onto the film to cool it. The tube of film then continues upwards, continually cooling, until it passes through nip rolls where the tube is flattened. This layflat tubing is then taken back down the extrusion tower via more rollers. The layflat tubing is then either kept as such or the edges of the layflat tubing are slit off to produce two flat polythene film sheets and wound up onto reels.

Black layflat tubing is also available for use where security maybe an issue.
